Orthodontic Treatment for Children
When it comes to looking after your child’s orthodontic needs, we like to keep it simple and practical. We are happy to see children from as early as 7-10 years, as recommended by the Australian Society of Orthodontists. This allows us to identify any potential orthodontic problems that may arise.
Early interceptive treatment can reduce the risk of trauma or damage to the teeth and guide the development of the erupting dentition.
If your child is not ready yet for treatment, we will continue to monitor their growth and development until the optimal time.
We are open on Saturdays for regular appointments and after school hours for emergencies so that you don’t need to take the children out of school or take time off work to attend appointments.
Benefits of treatment in children:
Identifies and alerts parents to orthodontic problems early so you know what to look out for
Builds confidence and reduces the risk of teasing at school
Reduces the risk of trauma to the teeth from protruding teeth or an incorrect bite
Reduces the extent of treatment needed as a teenager when all the adult teeth have erupted
Some of the problems in children we treat are:
Crossbite
Overbite and protruding teeth
Underbite
Thumbsucking habit
Ectopic development of adult teeth
Crowded teeth
Adam offers a customised treatment plan after a thorough assessment of your smile and your concerns. Some options may include:
-
A device that is glued to the teeth to widen the upper jaw. This helps to correct crossbites and creates more space.
-
A small section of braces to help teeth to grow into the correct position.
-
This is a device that helps to correct the way the upper and lower jaw meet together. It may be removal or glued in as part of the treatment.
-
If baby teeth have been lost early, a place-holder is needed to keep the space open for the adult teeth to grow into later. The space maintainer may be removable or glued in.
