FAQs

  • What is an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a specialist dentist who has undergone an additional three years of training and education at university to focus on straighening teeth, correcting misaligned jaws and improving the aesthetics and function of your smile.

  • Do I need a referral?

You are welcome to contact us and make an appointment without a referral. Your general dentist can also write a referral and provide some of your dental history if you would prefer.

  • Are you open Saturdays?

Yes we are! We are also open after school hours for emergencies so that you don’t need to take the children out of school or take time off work to attend appointments.

  • How much does treatment cost?

The fee for an initial consultation is $80. There may be an additional fee if extra records are required.

Fees for treatment are specific for each individual. We will give you a written quote with item numbers so you can check with your private health fund what the out-of-pocket fee will be. We offer flexible payment terms.

  • How long will my treatment take?

The average treatment time is is 18-24 months. But it can vary from 6 months to 3 years.

Everyone’s treatment will be different depending on:

    • the amount of correction required.

    • your body’s response to treatment.

    • how well you are able to follow treatment instructions.

  • Do I still need to see my general dentist when I have orthodontic treatment?

Yes! We recommend seeing your general dentist every 6 months to check for cavities and for a professional clean.

  • Can I claim on my private health insurance?

Please check with your private health fund if you have cover for orthodontic treatment. Some health funds only cover treatment by a specialist orthodontist like Dr Adam. If you are covered:

    1. Book a consultation appointment so we can work out your treatment options.

    2. We can give you a quote with item numbers and fees.

    3. Check with your health fund what the out of pocket cost will be.
